Major popular May 1st flea market on the Ducs d'Alsace tram park-and-ride in the Cronenbourg district of Strasbourg
The Cronenbourg Grand Flea Market has become over the decades one of the most emblematic flea markets in Strasbourg. Set up on the Ducs d'Alsace tram park-and-ride, a vast space that can accommodate more than 200 exhibitors, it benefits from exceptional accessibility thanks to the direct service by the A line of the Strasbourg tram. Organised by Cronenbourg Animation, this traditional May 1st event is an integral part of the festive identity of the district. It attracts from 6am thousands of passionate bargain hunters from not only Cronenbourg but the entire Strasbourg Eurometropolis, surrounding communes and even neighbouring Germany. Exhibitors, mostly private sellers, but also a few professional antique dealers and collectors, unpack their treasures from dawn to offer them until late afternoon.
Bargain hunters discover here an incredibly varied panorama: antiques, old furniture, vintage crockery (earthenware, porcelain, glasses), rare and old books, comics, vinyls (33 and 45 rpm), old postcards, frames, paintings, prints, light fixtures, trinkets, statuettes, fashion jewellery, watches, retro and vintage clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, old toys, dolls, miniature cars, tools, small household appliances, hi-fi and photo equipment, old linen, and countless curiosities. The popular and multicultural dimension of the Cronenbourg district is reflected in the diversity of items offered and visitors, creating a vibrant and warm atmosphere where encounters and negotiations are an integral part of the experience.
Cronenbourg is one of the major districts of Strasbourg, located north-west of the city centre. Historically a wine-growing village then an industrial suburb (Kronenbourg brewery founded in 1664), it is today a popular, lively and multicultural district, structured around the former Cité des Ducs d'Alsace and the Esplanade shopping centre. The Ducs d'Alsace tram park-and-ride, inaugurated with the extension of the A line of the tram towards Parc des Sports, offers an exceptional space for this major popular brocante which is the pride of the inhabitants. Refreshments, catering and specialities of all origins are offered on site, testifying to the cultural richness of the district. The event is also part of the long Alsatian tradition of May 1st brocantes, a day when the entire region mobilises to celebrate spring and Labour Day.
