A country festival in Civraisien

Champniers is a small rural southern-Vienne commune in Civraisien en Poitou canton, around 300 inhabitants. The Cormenier site (Chez Bernardeau) has hosted for years a genuine Spring Festival running all day on Sunday 26 April 2026, 6:30am to 7pm. Another Summer Festival runs in July, and an Autumn Flavours Festival in September-October.

Champniers and Civraisien en Poitou

Champniers (86400), small rural village near Civray, at the head of the Charente river. Cattle-raising and cereal farming country. The Cormenier, an association site with several buildings (bread oven, barn, land), has become the heart of village life. Its seasonal festivals follow the old peasant festive calendar.

Poitou specialties to taste

The country lunch lets you try: broyé du Poitou (traditional dry cake), farci poitevin (stuffed greens), grillons (pork rillettes), tourteau fromager, Pineau des Charentes (sweet regional wine). Civraisien, between Poitou and Charentes, has a rich, varied cuisine.

Visiting tips

Arrive morning to enjoy the sale before the crowd, then country lunch. Afternoon: Civray (Saint-Nicolas), Charroux (Most Beautiful Village + abbey), valleys. Families will especially enjoy the folk demos.
