The car boot sale of Mouthe, village of the source of the Doubs at 927 meters altitude in the Haut-Doubs
On May 25, 2026, the village of Mouthe in Haut-Doubs hosts its annual car boot sale. Private sellers and visitors gather for this spring treasure hunting day in this exceptional village, nestled at 927 meters altitude in a valley between Châtelblanc and Hôpitaux-Neufs, just 5 kilometers from the Swiss border.
Mouthe (25240) is famous for being one of the coldest municipalities in France, regularly nicknamed "little Siberia". The Doubs river originates here at 945 meters altitude, 2 km from the village, in the depths of the Jura massif. This exceptional natural site, the Source du Doubs, attracts thousands of visitors who love the Jura landscapes every year. Mouthe has about 1,000 inhabitants — the Meuthiards — and has a ski area and tourist facilities for cross-country skiing.
The Mouthe car boot sale is a unique opportunity to hunt for treasures at altitude in one of the most authentic corners of Haut-Doubs. Individuals from the village and neighboring towns (Pontarlier, Les Hôpitaux-Neufs, Châtelblanc) offer clothes, toys, mountain equipment, books, and various items. Admission is free for visitors.
Mouthe is accessible from Pontarlier (30 km southwest) via the D45, a winding mountain road. From Les Hôpitaux-Neufs, 10 km via the D437. The village is located in a deep valley at the source of the Doubs.
