Car boot sale at the foot of the donjon of Bassoues, medieval village of the Gers, spring and autumn
The Bassoues car boot sale unfolds in the Grand'Rue of this medieval village in the Gers, dominated by its imposing 14th-century keep. Organized twice a year — in spring and autumn — it brings together around 65 exhibitors in an exceptional heritage setting. The fortified town of Bassoues, with its covered market hall, its listed keep, and its half-timbered houses, offers one of the most beautiful flea market settings in Gascony.
The Bassoues car boot sale offers a unique treasure hunting experience: the stalls are set up in the Grand'Rue of this medieval fortified town, at the foot of the 43-meter-high keep, one of the best-preserved in the Southwest. With around 65 exhibitors, the car boot sale finds its right scale in this village of 450 inhabitants, offering an ideal density of stalls for a relaxed and productive hunt.
Bassoues is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in the Gers. The commune preserves remarkable heritage: the keep of the Archbishop of Auch (14th century, listed as a historic monument), the basilica of Saint-Fris (11th-15th centuries), the covered market hall with wooden pillars, and the half-timbered houses lining the Grand'Rue. The village is located 25 km northwest of Auch, on the route of the Gascon fortified towns.
Bassoues offers two car boot sales per year: one in the spring (April) and the other in the autumn (late September). This double schedule allows treasure hunters to enjoy the charm of the village in two different seasons. In spring, the stalls are set up in a Grand'Rue bathed in soft light; in autumn, the ochre and golden colors of the surrounding hills add to the charm of the hunt.
The linear configuration of the Grand'Rue creates a pleasant and logical treasure hunting route. Visitors stroll from one end of the village to the other, passing by stalls of Gascon furniture, antique tableware, embroidered linens, tools, toys, and trinkets, with the keep as a constant focal point. The refreshment stand and catering, often located under the covered market hall, offer local specialties.
