Capdenac-le-Haut is one of the most impressive medieval sites in the Lot. This village perched on a rocky spur overlooking a meander of the Lot river, 150 meters high, boasts exceptional heritage: medieval ramparts, a Gallic fountain, cut stone houses, and breathtaking panoramic views of the Lot valley and the surrounding causses. It is in this magnificent setting that the Comité des Fêtes de Capdenac organizes its traditional flea market and car boot sale every late July.
Few flea markets in the Lot can boast such an extraordinary setting as the one in Capdenac-le-Haut. Stalls are set up in the medieval alleys and open spaces of this fortified village, between the 13th-century ramparts and the half-timbered houses. Hunting for treasures here means diving into the history of Quercy while finding bargains. Visitors often take the opportunity to explore the castle, the ramparts, and the Gallic fountain carved into the rock.
The Traditional Flea Market of Capdenac-le-Haut is open to both private sellers and professional flea market dealers. The Comité des Fêtes manages the organization and reception of exhibitors who register in advance with the town hall. The day runs from 8 am to 5 pm, with free entry for visitors. A catering stand offers local specialties at noon, including calamari fritters, Asian dishes, and chicken skewers.
The Comité des Fêtes de Capdenac is the organizing association for the village's main festive events. Throughout the year, it organizes events that strengthen the social bond between permanent residents and the many second-home owners who choose Capdenac-le-Haut for its medieval charm and unparalleled views. The summer flea market is its flagship event, attracting the most visitors from the entire region.
Capdenac-le-Haut is a commune in the Lot department, located on the border of Aveyron, in a spectacular meander of the Lot river just before it enters Aveyron. With Capdenac-Gare below, the site forms a remarkable geographical ensemble that testifies to a millennia-old history: the Gallic oppidum of Uxellodunum, which resisted Caesar's armies, is said to have been located on this rocky plateau according to some historians, making Capdenac one of the important historical sites of Gaul.
