Annual flea market and car boot sale on the historic square of Saint-Julien-d'Empare, in Capdenac-Gare in Aveyron
The Brocante and Car Boot Sale of Saint-Julien-d'Empare is an annual event organized by the Foyer Rural on the square of the historic hamlet of Saint-Julien-d'Empare, part of the commune of Capdenac-Gare in Aveyron. Every spring, in April, individuals and bargain hunters gather in this remarkable heritage setting, a stone's throw from the medieval castle of Saint-Julien-d'Empare, a listed Historic Monument. The event brings together occasional sellers and bargain hunters for a friendly day of outdoor treasure hunting, in the heart of the Lot valley.
Every spring, the Foyer Rural de Saint-Julien-d'Empare organizes its flea market and car boot sale on the hamlet's square, in the commune of Capdenac-Gare (Aveyron). This popular event brings together locals and visitors for the pleasure of treasure hunting and discovering old or second-hand items at low prices.
Saint-Julien-d'Empare is a place with a remarkable past. Formerly the name of the commune before the creation of the railway station in 1857 and the establishment of Capdenac-Gare as a separate commune in 1891, this hamlet preserves architectural heritage of great value. The Château de Saint-Julien-d'Empare, a medieval building classified as a Historic Monument, with a central body flanked by corner towers, overlooks the site and gives the flea market a unique setting. The church of Saint-Julien-d'Empare completes this historical ensemble nestled in the verdant Lot valley, on the borders of Aveyron and Quercy.
The flea market and car boot sale of Saint-Julien-d'Empare offers a wide variety of items: antiques and old objects, crockery and trinkets, books and vinyl records, clothing and accessories, toys and games, tools and small furniture. Pitches, accessible to individuals for a fee of 10 euros, allow everyone to clear out their attics, cellars, and wardrobes in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Supported by the Foyer Rural, an essential local association, this event is part of the tradition of popular events that mark the life of Aveyron villages. The Saint-Julien-d'Empare flea market contributes to the social dynamic of the hamlet and Capdenac-Gare, by fostering intergenerational exchanges and promoting reuse. Entry is free for visitors, and the family atmosphere attracts a loyal crowd each year from the surrounding communes.
Located at the western tip of Aveyron, Capdenac-Gare is a town born from the railway, facing Capdenac-le-Haut (Lot) and near Figeac. The town is an ideal starting point for exploring the Lot valley, the Aveyron gorges, and the Ségala plateau. After the flea market, visitors can enjoy the nearby Lot riverbanks, discover the Château de Saint-Julien-d'Empare, or cross the bridge to reach the perched village of Capdenac-le-Haut, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
