Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano — Santa Lucia di Tallano in Corsican — is a perched village in the Alta Rocca, nestled in the hills of southern Corsica-du-Sud at about 600 meters altitude. With its cobbled streets, granite houses, 16th-century Franciscan convent, and richly endowed parish church, the village is a must-see for anyone visiting the Corsican hinterland. The Piazza d'Ulmu, shaded by its large elm trees, is the social heart of the village and the natural setting for this flea market.
The Alta Rocca is a region of Corsican high mountains renowned for its grandiose landscapes, its Laricio pine forests, its crystal-clear rivers, and its authentic villages. Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano is also known for its orbicular diorite, a very rare ornamental rock found only in a few places in the world.
The brocante of Santa Lucia di Tallano is run by professional exhibitors, which guarantees a careful selection and a certain diversity in the items offered. Unlike private car boot sales, these specialized merchants bring expertise in the presentation and appraisal of items, making treasure hunting both safer and more informative for novice buyers and seasoned collectors alike.
The event is part of the summer calendar of the Alta Rocca community of communes, which supports the animation of the territory's villages during the high tourist season. The flea market attracts both passing holidaymakers and residents of the Corsican hinterland, contributing to the economic and social life of the village.
