Advent market and Christmas flea market in December on the village square of Alta Rocca
Every December, Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano celebrates its patron saint with a Christmas market and flea market on the village square. About twenty exhibitors offer nativity scenes, jewelry, wooden toys, chocolates, Corsican pastries, decorations, and foie gras. New figatellu and grills complete the festive atmosphere of this winter event in the heart of Alta Rocca.
Every year in December, the village of Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano dons its finest winter colors to host its Christmas market and flea market. Organized around the feast of Saint Lucy, the village patron saint celebrated on December 13th, this event brings together locals and visitors in a warm and reflective atmosphere in the heart of Alta Rocca.
On the village square, about twenty exhibitors display their stalls filled with handmade nativity scenes, jewelry, wooden toys, fine chocolates, Corsican pastries (canistrelli, castagnacci, falculelle), Christmas decorations, and foie gras. Alongside the craft stands, a flea market area allows you to find antique items and curiosities to offer as gifts for the holidays.
The Christmas market of Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano is part of a long tradition of winter events in the villages of inland Corsica. The Alta Rocca region, often snow-covered in December, takes on a particularly magical character during this season. Local artisans present their creations—filigree silver jewelry, olive wood objects, myrtle soaps, fig jam—alongside producers offering the authentic flavors of the island.
Small refreshments are available on-site with grillades and new figatellu, the Corsican liver sausage traditionally enjoyed at the beginning of the cold season. This conviviality around the fire is one of the highlights of the event, allowing visitors to warm up while discovering the local products of Alta Rocca.
Saint Lucy, celebrated on December 13th, is the patron saint of the village. In island tradition, this feast marks the beginning of Advent and is celebrated with religious and popular ceremonies. The village's Christmas market is usually held around this date, combining devotion and festivity in the Corsican spirit of paghiella—shared conviviality.
The village itself is a prime destination in winter: its streets, deserted by summer tourists, regain their serenity, its monuments (Franciscan convent, Sainte-Marie church with its altarpiece attributed to the Florentine school, the Roman cistern) can be visited peacefully, and the landscapes of Alta Rocca offer sumptuous panoramas of the snow-capped peaks.
The Christmas market and flea market of Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano returns in December 2026, around the feast of Saint Lucy, on December 13th. Corsican crafts, local products, flea market, and food stalls on the village square in Alta Rocca, South Corsica.
