In the Pays de Mirepoix, 7 kilometers northeast of Lavelanet, the village of Léran hosts its annual flea market every May. This village of 615 inhabitants offers an exceptional setting for this event: in the shade of the Château de Léran, a listed historical monument dating from the 15th-19th centuries, exhibitors set up their stalls for a day of treasure hunting in a preserved medieval setting.

Léran (09600) is a village in the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Mirepoix, nestled at an altitude of 460 meters in the hills of the Bas-Pays ariégeois. The village is crossed by the river Touyre and benefits from a remarkable natural environment, between forests and meadows at the foot of the first Pyrenean foothills.

The Château de Léran is the only listed historical monument in the commune. This imposing building, whose origins date back to the 15th century and which underwent significant renovations at the end of the 19th century, dominates the village with its majestic silhouette. The Regional Natural Park of the Ariège Pyrenees is accessible nearby, making Léran an ideal starting point for hikers and nature lovers.

The annual Léran flea market draws its uniqueness from its exceptional architectural setting. Léran and the riches of the Pays de Mirepoix

A visit to the flea market can be part of a broader exploration of the Pays de Mirepoix. A few kilometers away, Mirepoix – one of the most beautiful medieval bastides in France – surprises with its arcaded covered walkways and its Gothic cathedral. The Château de Montségur, a Cathar citadel perched on its peak, offers a striking dive into the history of medieval Occitania. Lavelanet, the capital of Ariège textiles, offers its textile and comb museum.
