Summer flea market in one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, in the hamlet of Les Girauds
The brocante of Gargilesse-Dampierre at the hamlet of Les Girauds is held every summer in one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. This village in the Creuse valley, dear to George Sand and the Impressionist painters, offers an exceptional setting for treasure hunting amidst stone houses and flowery alleys.
The brocante of Gargilesse-Dampierre at the hamlet of Les Girauds takes place every summer in an enchanting setting. Gargilesse-Dampierre, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, is a jewel of the Creuse valley with its stone houses, sloping alleys, medieval castle, and Romanesque church adorned with remarkable frescoes. Exhibitors set up their stalls in the hamlet of Les Girauds, offering antique furniture, earthenware, art objects, trinkets, books, paintings, and a thousand finds.
Gargilesse-Dampierre is a commune of about 300 inhabitants nestled in the gorges of the Gargilesse, a tributary of the Creuse. The village inspired the novelist George Sand, who owned a house there, now transformed into a museum. Impressionist painters—Monet, Guillaumin, Osterlind—stayed there, attracted by the light and landscapes. The 11th-century castle, the Romanesque church, and the hanging gardens form an exceptional heritage that makes every visit a discovery.
The setting of Gargilesse gives this flea market a unique atmosphere. After browsing the stalls, visitors can extend their day with a walk through the village, a visit to the house of George Sand, or a stroll along the Gargilesse river. Admission is free.
The brocante of Gargilesse-Dampierre at Les Girauds returns on August 23, 2026, in the heart of this Most Beautiful Village of France. Free admission.
