Grand flea market of the Chestnut Festival in Mâron, 230 exhibitors for this Berrichon autumn tradition
Every third Sunday in October, the commune of Mâron hosts its legendary Chestnut Festival, combined with a large flea market that brings together around 230 exhibitors from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Professionals and individuals offer antique furniture, trinkets, tableware, books, tools, clothing, toys, lighting fixtures, and collector's items. At the same time, stands of roasted chestnuts scent the autumn air, and local producers present honey, cheeses, jams, and specialties from Berry.
Mâron is a commune of about 1,000 inhabitants located south of Châteauroux, on the hillsides overlooking the Indre valley. The village is surrounded by chestnut groves that have given rise to this autumn tradition, which has become a must-attend event. The association Mâron en Fête has been organizing the event for over 30 years, making this day an identity-building gathering for the entire community.
Beyond the flea market and chestnut tasting, the festival offers fairground rides, musical entertainment, and full catering with refreshments and grills. Outdoor pitches cost approximately 12 euros for 5 meters. Admission is free for visitors, who flock in their thousands from all over the department.
