The Bayard district is named after the knight Pierre Terrail, seigneur de Bayard, the famous "knight without fear and without reproach" who embodied the virtues of French chivalry at the end of the 15th century. This residential and commercial district of Charleville-Mézières is lively all year round, and its annual summer flea market is one of its highlights. The streets and public spaces of the district are transformed into a vast aisle of stalls where professional exhibitors, occasional flea market sellers, and individuals clearing out their attics mingle.
