Annual flea market with 280 exhibitors in the heart of the sanctuary village of Lalouvesc, organized each September by the Comité des Fêtes.
The Grande Brocante de Lalouvesc is one of the unmissable events in Northern Ardèche for flea market enthusiasts. Organized every year in September by the Comité des Fêtes de Lalouvesc, this large-scale event brings together nearly 280 exhibitors—professional and private dealers—in the streets and squares of the sanctuary village perched at over 1,000 meters altitude in the Vivarais massif. Free entry for visitors.
Every September, the village of Lalouvesc hosts its Grande Brocante, a flagship event organized by the local Comité des Fêtes. With its 280 exhibitors, this annual flea market is among the most important in northern Ardèche and attracts bargain hunters, collectors, and antique lovers from across the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and beyond.
The village transforms for a weekend into a vast open-air market: paved streets, squares, and public spaces come alive with stalls laden with antiques, old furniture, collectible items, tableware, books, vintage clothing, trinkets, and curiosities of all kinds. Entry is free for visitors, contributing to the event's appeal and the friendly atmosphere.
Lalouvesc is a commune in the Ardèche region (department 07, postal code 07520), perched at over 1,050 meters altitude on the foothills of the Vivarais massif, on the border of the Ardèche, Loire, and Isère departments. This village of character, a member of the network of Sanctuary Towns in France, is famous in Catholic circles as a pilgrimage site dedicated to Saint Jean-François Régis, a canonized Jesuit whose relics are kept in the majestic neo-Byzantine basilica overlooking the village.
The basilica of Lalouvesc, built between 1860 and 1883, is a remarkable edifice that welcomes thousands of pilgrims each year to venerate the patron saint of the inhabitants of the Ardèche mountains and the Vivarais-Rhône-Alpes region. Alongside it, the Maison Saint Régis houses a museum and an interactive exhibition retracing the saint's life. The village also retains authentic rural architecture: granite houses, picturesque alleys, and striking panoramas of the Vivarais mountains and, on clear days, the peaks of the Chaîne des Puys and the Massif Central.
The natural environment of Lalouvesc is exceptional: beech and fir forests, high-altitude meadows, rivers and streams with clear waters, hiking trails through the Vivarais ridges. The village is located near Pilat, Mézenc, and the Gorges de la Borne, in a typical mid-mountain landscape of northern Ardèche.
The Grande Brocante de Lalouvesc stands out for its remarkable number of exhibitors: 280 participants invest the village spaces each year in September. This exceptional figure for a rural mountain commune reflects the dynamism of the organizing Comité des Fêtes and the event's appeal to professional dealers and individuals.
You can find a wide variety of goods: antique furniture—chests of drawers, sideboards, tables, armchairs, and chairs of various styles—tableware and table arts—faience, porcelain, glassware—collectible items—coins, stamps, postcards, figurines, old toys—old books and documents, vintage clothing and accessories, paintings and prints, tools and objects from the rural world, trinkets and curiosities from all eras. Antique enthusiasts mingle with fans of vintage items from the 1950s to the 1980s, in a friendly and lively atmosphere.
The size of the event allows every bargain hunter to find something they love, whether they are looking for a specific item or simply hoping for a happy surprise. The numerous and often specialized professional exhibitors ensure a quality and diversity of offerings that meet the expectations of even the most demanding collectors.
The Grande Brocante de Lalouvesc is more than just a market: it is a popular and unifying event for the entire commune and its surroundings. Organized by the Comité des Fêtes with the support of many local volunteers, the flea market livens up the village for a whole day, or even a weekend, and generates valuable commercial activity for the shops, restaurants, and accommodation providers in Lalouvesc and neighboring villages.
The event is part of the tradition of large village flea markets that punctuate the Ardèche calendar throughout the summer and autumn. It attracts visitors from the Loire, Isère, Rhône, and neighboring Haute-Loire departments, contributing to the tourist appeal of the Vivarais region and the vitality of the rural territory. For the locals, it is a moment of pride and conviviality, an opportunity to meet friends and neighbors in a festive atmosphere around the treasures displayed on the stalls.
Whether you are a flea market enthusiast, a lover of the Ardèche mountains, or a passing pilgrim, the Grande Brocante de Lalouvesc is an event to mark in your calendar every September.
