Annual grand flea market in July in the heart of Lamastre, 150 exhibitors in the Ardèche town center
The Grande Brocante de Lamastre is the major summer event for bargain hunters in the Northern Ardèche. Organized every year in July by the Lamastre Tourist Office, this event brings together over 150 exhibitors in the streets of the town center. Professional and private sellers mingle to offer antique furniture, collectible items, tableware, books, and curiosities. Free admission for all visitors.
Every last Sunday of July, Lamastre transforms into a huge treasure market. The Grande Brocante de Lamastre, organized by the Lamastre Tourist Office, takes over the town center with its 150 carefully selected exhibitors. Professional antique dealers and private sellers set up along the cobbled streets to offer an incredible diversity of items: antique furniture, tableware and pottery, trinkets, old books, tools, retro toys, vintage clothing, paintings, silverware, and curiosities of all kinds. This event, which has become one of the must-attend summer gatherings in the Ardèche, attracts thousands of visitors each year from across the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and beyond.
Lamastre is the main town of the Pays du Doux, nestled between the foothills of the Massif Central and the Rhône valley, in the Ardèche department (07). With its 2,400 inhabitants, it is a small town of character, with remarkable architectural and natural heritage. Its medieval streets, lively squares, and granite stone facades bear witness to a centuries-old rural and commercial history. The Tuesday market, held all year round, is one of the oldest and liveliest in the Northern Ardèche.
Lamastre is world-renowned among railway enthusiasts thanks to the Train de l'Ardèche — the famous Mastrou — which connects Tournon-sur-Rhône to Lamastre along the Gorges du Doux. This historic tourist train, in operation since 1891, covers 33 kilometers through wild and preserved nature, crossing tunnels, viaducts, and dizzying overhangs. It is one of the most beautiful steam train excursions in France and attracts tens of thousands of visitors every summer.
The Lamastre area is also renowned for the production of Ardèche chestnuts, livestock farming, and fruit tree cultivation. The hedgerow, heathland, and forest landscapes surrounding the town offer numerous hiking trails and cycling routes. The Doux river, which flows through the gorges below, is popular for fishing and outdoor activities.
The Grande Brocante de Lamastre occupies the main streets and squares of the town center, creating a festive labyrinth where it's pleasant to stroll for hours. The 150 exhibitors offer a wide variety of goods, covering all styles and eras: from rustic Ardèche furniture to Art Deco pieces, including grandmother's tableware, old tools, old toys, costume jewelry, old books and postcards, or retro advertising items.
The event is known for the quality and diversity of its stands, attracting both seasoned bargain hunters looking for rare items, families seeking good deals, and curious tourists wanting to discover Ardèche's crafts and heritage. The Lamastre Tourist Office oversees the organization and welcome, making this event a friendly and festive occasion that celebrates both the tradition of treasure hunting and the Lamastre residents' attachment to their territory.
The Grande Brocante de Lamastre reached its 20th edition in 2025, marking two decades of uninterrupted success. This anniversary was celebrated with a particularly lively edition, record attendance, and a festive atmosphere throughout the day. The event has established itself as a highlight of the summer calendar in the Pays de Lamastre, significantly contributing to the tourist and economic attractiveness of the region.
Combined with a visit to old Lamastre, an excursion into the Gorges du Doux, or a trip aboard the Train de l'Ardèche, the Grande Brocante offers a rich and memorable day in the heart of the green Ardèche. Restaurants, cafes, and town center shops extend the experience with their lively terraces.
The 21st Grande Brocante de Lamastre is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2026, in the town center of Lamastre. Organized by the Lamastre Tourist Office, the event will once again bring together over 150 exhibitors. Free admission.
