The Brocante du Judo: the July 14th treasure hunt at the port of Mortagne

Every July 14th, Bastille Day, the port of Mortagne-sur-Gironde comes alive with the Brocante du Judo, organized by the Judo Club de Touvent. Approximately 200 exhibitors set up along the Quai des Pêcheurs and its surroundings to offer a wide selection of second-hand items to treasure hunters celebrating July 14th by the estuary.

The port of Mortagne-sur-Gironde is nestled at the foot of the limestone cliffs overlooking the Gironde estuary. This marina, formerly a commercial and fishing port, offers a spectacular setting with its iconic fishing huts on stilts (carrelets) and its panoramic view of the estuary waters. The Quai des Pêcheurs, the traditional location for the flea market, runs along the port, allowing visitors to hunt for treasures with the estuary as a backdrop, a unique setting in Charente-Maritime.

A July 14th event rooted in tradition

The Brocante du Judo is an integral part of the July 14th festivities in Mortagne-sur-Gironde. From 8 am, treasure hunters browse the stalls set up along the quays. Exhibitors, welcomed from 6 am, offer flea market items, trinkets, tableware, books, clothing, and a thousand other second-hand treasures. The sale of food products is not permitted, preserving the authentic character of the flea market.

The Judo Club de Touvent, a player in local life

The Judo Club de Touvent organizes this flea market to fund its sports activities. The club, named after the hamlet of Touvent in the commune, offers judo practice for children and adults in the area. Refreshments and fast food, provided on-site by club volunteers, complete the offerings for this festive day. Profits are used to purchase equipment, fund competitions, and support young judokas.
