Grand flea market on July 14th in the medieval village of Ainay-le-Château
Every July 14th, the streets of Ainay-le-Château are transformed into a vast treasure market. This fortified medieval village, listed among the most beautiful sites in Bourbonnais, offers an exceptional setting for a day of treasure hunting, between ramparts, watchtowers, and half-timbered houses. With around 200 exhibitors, the flea market takes over the entire town for a day that stretches from dawn until evening.
Ainay-le-Château preserves exceptional medieval heritage: its almost intact ramparts, its five defense towers, its fortified gate, and its old houses bear witness to the importance of this town in the Middle Ages. Treasure hunting in these historic streets means traveling back in time while rummaging through stalls in search of treasures. The flea market route follows the picturesque alleys of the town, offering a new perspective on this remarkable heritage at every turn.
Located on the edge of the Tronçais national forest, one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe, Ainay-le-Château benefits from an exceptional natural environment. Visitors to the flea market can extend their day with a walk in the forest, discovering the centuries-old oaks and ponds that make this area famous.
The flea market is part of the July 14th festivities, with entertainment, on-site catering, and a national holiday atmosphere. The generous opening hours, from 6 am to 10 pm, allow both early morning treasure hunters and evening strollers to fully enjoy this exceptional day in a unique historical setting.
