Every August 15th, the village of Saint-Bonnet-Tronçais hosts its grand traditional flea market in the heart of the Tronçais national forest, one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. This popular event takes over the village streets for a full day of treasure hunting, in an exceptional natural and heritage setting.

A village in the heart of the forest

Saint-Bonnet-Tronçais is a small village in the Allier region whose identity is intimately linked to the Tronçais forest. Planted under Colbert to supply masts to the royal navy, this 10,600-hectare national forest is home to some of the finest sessile oaks in France, some of which are over 300 years old. Hunting for treasures in the streets of Saint-Bonnet means enjoying the coolness of the nearby forest and a rarely matched atmosphere of serenity.

From the treasure market to the fireworks

August 15th in Saint-Bonnet-Tronçais is a complete celebration. The flea market fills the village streets during the day, with stalls offering antique furniture, crockery, trinkets, and collectibles. At dusk, fireworks are set off over the pond, offering a magical spectacle in the forest setting. The evening continues with the traditional firefighters' ball at the Ferme de l'étang.

Visitors to the flea market can extend their day by exploring the Tronçais forest and its treasures: the Stebbing oak, the Colbert forest stand, the Saint-Bonnet and Pirot ponds, or the Richebourg clearing.
