The Calandreta Car Boot Sale: supporting the Occitan school of Bergerac

The Calandreta Bel Solelh school (“Beau Soleil” in Occitan) is a private associative bilingual French-Occitan primary school, established in Bergerac since the 1990s. Every year in April, the school organizes a car boot sale at the Espace René Coicaud to finance its educational projects and the operation of the school cooperative. This event has become an anticipated meeting for the families of Bergerac.

Two options for exhibitors

The car boot sale offers two distinct areas. The indoor area, in a heated room, is offered at €3 per linear meter, with tables of 1m x 2m available on request. The outdoor area, on the ground next to the car park (“place du marché”), is offered at €2 per linear meter. Exhibitors are welcomed from 6 am, with a free coffee as a welcome. Booking a spot is mandatory, by phone or email.

Espace René Coicaud, a friendly venue

Located route de la Brunetière in Bergerac, Espace René Coicaud offers a spacious setting for this car boot sale: a large indoor room for exhibitors to stay dry and a vast outdoor area for sunny April days. The refreshment stand and on-site catering allow visitors to eat while supporting the school cooperative. The atmosphere is family-friendly and warm, reflecting the Occitan school.

Calandreta, bilingual active pedagogy

Calandretas are schools with active pedagogy that practice immersion in the Occitan language from kindergarten. The Bergerac school, Calandreta Bel Solelh, welcomes children from kindergarten to CM2 and is part of a network of Occitan schools present throughout southern France. The annual car boot sale is one of the main events of the parents' association that supports the school.
