Every third Sunday in September, the Canal Saint-Martin neighborhood in Rennes transforms into a giant open-air car boot sale. Over 5 kilometers of stalls, more than 1,500 exhibitors—individuals, antique dealers, and associations—offer clothing, furniture, vintage items, books, toys, vinyl records, and curiosities of all kinds. The street sale attracts nearly 100,000 visitors, coming from all corners of Brittany to hunt for treasures and enjoy the festive atmosphere along the canal.

A popular and friendly neighborhood

The Canal Saint-Martin is one of Rennes' iconic thoroughfares, lined with characterful houses and local shops. On the day of the street sale, residents set up their stalls in front of their homes, neighborhood associations run refreshment and food stands, and a village festival atmosphere takes over the entire area. Musical entertainment, food trucks, and galette-saucisse stands punctuate the treasure hunt route, creating a day that is both popular and warm.

40 years of history

Created in 1987, the Braderie du Canal Saint-Martin celebrates its 40th edition in 2026. Over the decades, it has become a must-attend event for the start of the Rennes season, an event that marks the end of summer and the return to neighborhood life. Its success is based on a simple and generous format: kilometers of stalls accessible to all, free admission, and a conviviality that makes the Saint-Martin neighborhood proud.
