The big autumn shopping sale
Châtellerault's November Sale runs over three days at the start of the month in this Vienne sub-prefecture — the department's second city. A major event mobilising town-centre retailers and drawing shoppers from across northern Vienne. Often called the Autumn Sale, it offers end-of-line items, promotions and special deals ahead of the holiday season.
Châtellerault is Vienne's sub-prefecture and the department's second city with around 30,000 inhabitants. A city of long industrial tradition (royal arms factory, cutlery, metallurgy), also a dynamic shopping hub with many town-centre boutiques, peripheral shopping areas, and an agglomeration radiating across northern Vienne. The November Sale is one of the year's commercial highlights, at a key moment before Christmas shopping.
The Châtellerault November Sale runs over three full days: Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November 2026. This extended duration has advantages. Retailers can spread promotions, customers can return multiple times, crowds are better distributed, the event becomes a true shopping destination.
Unlike a flea market where individuals sell personal items, a commercial sale (braderie) is a retailer event. Shops bring stock outside or organise outdoor stands, offering exceptional discounts, end-of-line items and promotions. Festive atmosphere, pedestrian streets, customers enjoy deals while discovering the town centre.
Beyond the deals, a chance to (re)discover Châtellerault heritage: Henri-IV Bridge (1609, one of France's oldest, 147m long, listed), Royal Arms Manufactory (converted to cultural and work spaces), Auto-Moto-Bike Museum (major French public collection, in the Manufactory), Blossac Theatre, Saint-Jacques church (11th-15th centuries), Descartes house (the philosopher spent part of his childhood here).
Combines heritage, industry and commercial dynamism. Famous Saturday morning market, many varied town-centre shops, frequent cultural events. The November Sale benefits from this to attract visitors and shoppers from across Grand Châtellerault and beyond.
