Wissous is an Essonne commune of around 7,500 inhabitants, nestled between Paris-Orly airport and the dense southern suburbs. Despite this unusual setting, Wissous has preserved a remarkable village character. At the heart of the old village, the Église Saint-Nicolas — with origins dating to the 12th century — dominates the village square with its Romanesque tower, a reminder of the commune's long history.
The municipal flea market, held each autumn on the Place de la Libération, gathers around 270 private sellers, making it one of the largest flea markets in Essonne by seller count. Free entry, 8:30 am to 6 pm. Organised by the Town of Wissous (tel: 01 64 47 27 27). The picturesque village setting gives this market a unique atmosphere.
