Car boot sale associated with the traditional Whitsun fair in Chaponnay, south-east of Lyon
On Monday 25 May 2026, Whit Monday, Chaponnay (69970) celebrates its traditional fair enriched by an annual car boot sale. In this village south-east of Lyon, the Whitsun fair is eagerly awaited each year: it marks the beginning of the fine season and offers a moment of collective celebration for the whole commune. The associated car boot sale adds a popular and family market dimension, where clothes, toys, crockery, books and everyday objects change hands in an atmosphere of conviviality and sharing typical of spring public holidays.
Chaponnay is a commune in the Lyon metropolitan area, located in the south-east of the agglomeration, between Heyrieux and Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu. A rural commune undergoing urbanisation, it retains the character of a village with its local shops, associations and annual events that punctuate communal life. The Bas-Dauphiné plain surrounding it is characterised by open fields and market gardening, giving Chaponnay a still very rural character despite its proximity to Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport.
Chaponnay is accessible from Lyon via the A43 motorway (Heyrieux exit) or via the D37. The commune is about 25 km south-east of Lyon, close to Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport.
