About Viricelles Scarecrow Fest

The Viricelles Scarecrow Festival, organized since 1993, is accompanied by a car boot sale on the first weekend of August. The village inhabitants create scarecrows that are exhibited and paraded through the streets, while bargain hunters enjoy a regional products market and an open-air car boot sale. A unique, free, and festive event in the Loire.

An original and colorful festival

Viricelles, a small village in the Loire located between Chazelles-sur-Lyon and Saint-Galmier, is the scene each first weekend of August of a unique festival: the Scarecrow Festival. Created in 1993, this event has gained local notoriety for its originality. The inhabitants create scarecrows which are exhibited and then paraded through the village streets.

Car boot sale and regional market

Alongside the scarecrow exhibition and parade, a car boot sale and a regional products market are set up in the village. Bargain hunters can browse the stalls of second-hand items while admiring the sometimes surprising creations of the villagers. The atmosphere is festive and family-friendly, with musical entertainment and tastings. It is one of the most atypical events in the Loire department.
