Bargain hunting, brocante and artisan crafts combined for a Sunday in May
The village of Damiatte, on the Tarn plain between Lavaur and Graulhet, hosts each spring an original event combining a flea market, a brocante and a creators' market. Set up along Avenue de Graulhet and the village squares and car parks, exhibitors offer a refreshing mix of classic bargain hunting and contemporary craftsmanship. A formula that appeals to families, collectors and lovers of unique objects in a village atmosphere.
What sets Damiatte apart from other flea markets in the department is its triple identity. Alongside the classic stalls of private sellers emptying their cellars and attics, you find genuine brocante dealers and especially creators: art craftspeople, jewellers, potters, ceramists, textile makers and illustrators set up their creations next to the trestles of bargain hunters. This coexistence gives the day a distinctive flavour and widens its audience considerably.
The event spreads along Avenue de Graulhet, the village's main street, taking over the neighbouring squares and car parks. Damiatte is no big town: that human scale is felt in the organisation itself. Lanes are pleasant to walk, the pace stays relaxed, village shops open their doors. The whole thing becomes a village celebration on a larger scale, much loved by local families.
On the flea market side, the usual repertoire: clothing, toys, crockery, books, comics, records, small furniture and all manner of trinkets. On the brocante side, a few professionals offer antique furniture, paintings, lamps or collectibles. On the creators' side, diversity is the rule: fashion jewellery, fabric bags, artisan soaps, ceramics, wooden toys, watercolours, textile artworks, designer lamps. Plenty of finds to treat others or yourself.
Halfway between Lavaur (the Vaurais sub-prefecture) and Graulhet (the leather-working capital), Damiatte is a great base to explore this lesser-known part of the Tarn. The landscape of cultivated hills, small Romanesque churches and neighbouring bastides (Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux, Fiac) forms a gentle, rolling area south of the pays de cocagne. The village is crossed by the Agout, a small river that winds on before meeting the Tarn.
Allow at least half a day to browse the stalls without rushing. Mornings are liveliest for bargain hunting, while afternoons tend to be quieter — ideal for chatting with the creators. Parking is available in the village car parks, but arrive relatively early to avoid parking far away. On-site refreshments and lunch let you pause without leaving.
Damiatte's flea market, brocante and creators' market returns on Tuesday 12 May 2026 on Avenue de Graulhet and in the village's squares and car parks.
