Hunting for treasures at the foot of the Château d'Époisses, a cheese-making town in Burgundy

Every August, the Union Sportive Semur-Époisses organizes a car boot sale in the streets of the village of Époisses, at the foot of its famous château surrounded by a moat. The event, reaching its 9th edition in 2025, takes over several streets: rue du Stade, rue Demoiselles Bert, ERL parking, rue de la Gare, and Les Promenades. Exhibitors, welcomed from 6 am, offer a wide range of second-hand items: tableware, trinkets, books, toys, clothes, furniture, and curiosities.

Époisses, a cheese village with remarkable heritage

Époisses is world-renowned for its eponymous cheese, a soft cheese with a washed rind made with Marc de Bourgogne, protected by an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée. The village, located in Auxois about thirty kilometers southeast of Semur-en-Auxois, boasts remarkable heritage dominated by its château, a medieval and Renaissance fortress surrounded by a moat, open for visits. The car boot sale offers an opportunity to combine treasure hunting with discovering this charming village.

A sporting and friendly event

Organized by the local football club, the Époisses car boot sale is above all a friendly and popular event. The refreshments and fast food, run by the volunteers of the Union Sportive, allow attendees to eat between hunting sessions. The very affordable fee for exhibitors (€1.50 per linear meter) encourages the participation of many private sellers, ensuring a varied selection and good deals.
