May 1st car boot sale on the Aveyron plateau, between the Lot valley and the Monts d'Aubrac
The Vide-Grenier du Nayrac is a popular event organized every May 1st in this charming village in northern Aveyron, perched on the Viadène plateau at an altitude of around 700 meters. Set up in the parking lot of the Espace multiculturel, this morning car boot sale attracts bargain hunters from the surrounding area at dawn, who come to sift through the stalls of individuals looking for good deals. The green setting of Le Nayrac, a village awarded the "Village Fleuri" label since 1954, offers a bucolic backdrop for this spring treasure hunt, just a few kilometers from the medieval village of Estaing, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in France.
Every May 1st, Labour Day, the village of Le Nayrac hosts its traditional car boot sale in the parking lot of the Espace multiculturel. From 6 a.m., private sellers unpack their treasures: crockery, trinkets, clothes, toys, books, tools, small furniture, and curiosities of all kinds. The early opening delights the most avid bargain hunters, who take advantage of the first light of day to spot the best finds before the crowds arrive.
With a population of around 550 inhabitants, Le Nayrac covers over 3,500 hectares in the canton of Estaing, in northwestern Aveyron. The area, with an altitude ranging from 300 meters in the Lot valley to nearly 900 meters on the heights of the hamlet of Varès, offers remarkable panoramas of the Monts du Cantal, the Monts d'Aubrac, and the Cévennes. The village is dominated by the tall, pointed bell tower of its ancient church, and its houses covered with solid local slate bear witness to preserved rural architecture.
Le Nayrac holds a little-known historical heritage that is worth a visit: the ruins of the Château de Frayssinet and its engraved motto, a prehistoric dolmen, mysterious underground passages, and ancient stone sarcophagi. Awarded the Village Fleuri (three flowers) label since 1954, the village is also part of the Aubrac Regional Natural Park, ensuring a preserved natural environment and exceptional fauna and flora.
Le Nayrac is located a few kilometers from Estaing, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in France and an emblematic stop on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. After a morning of treasure hunting at the car boot sale, visitors can extend their excursion by heading down to the Lot valley to discover the Château d'Estaing, the Gothic bridge, and the medieval streets of this picturesque village. The town of Espalion, with its old bridge and museum, is only 13 kilometers away.
The Vide-Grenier du Nayrac is open to individuals wishing to sell their second-hand items. Entry is free for visitors. The event starts very early, at 6 a.m., making it one of the first treasure hunting events of the day in the area. The parking lot of the Espace multiculturel, in the heart of the village, offers a clear and easily accessible space for setting up stalls.
The Vide-Grenier du Nayrac returns on Friday, May 1st, 2026, in the parking lot of the Espace multiculturel, in the heart of this floral village of Aveyron. Opens at 6 a.m., free entry, private sellers only.
