Car boot sale for the Saint-Antoine festival and local festival in Lézat-sur-Lèze
Lézat-sur-Lèze is one of the few communes in Ariège to offer two car boot sales and flea markets per year: one in June, during the Saint-Antoine festival organized by the Lézat Traditions association, and the other in September for the local festival. These two events are part of a larger festive program that includes entertainment, a gourmet village, tastings of local products, and sales of traditional crafts.
Lézat-sur-Lèze (09210) is a commune in Bas-Ariège located on the banks of the Lèze, a river that gives its name to a small natural region between Ariège and Haute-Garonne. With around 2,000 inhabitants, Lézat-sur-Lèze is a dynamic rural village with a rich medieval history. The Benedictine abbey of Lézat, founded in the 9th century, was one of the most important in Occitania before being devastated by the Wars of Religion in the 16th century. The remains of the abbey church and the converted monastic buildings still bear witness to this past grandeur.
The commune is part of the Arize-Lèze community of communes and is equidistant from Pamiers to the north and Saint-Girons to the south, in the alluvial plain of the Lèze. The surrounding hills, covered with fields and vineyards, produce the grapes used during the pressing demonstrations at the September fair.
The June edition of the car boot sale is part of the Saint-Antoine festival, the patron saint of the commune. The Lézat Traditions association, founded to perpetuate local traditions and know-how, organizes this day which combines a flea market open to individuals and professionals, a gourmet village with tastings and sales of Ariège specialties, entertainment and shows. The event takes place in the streets of the center of Lézat-sur-Lèze, taking advantage of the medieval setting of the village to create a festive and warm atmosphere.
The September edition, linked to the local festival, also offers a car boot sale and flea market in the streets of the commune. This second event of the year is part of the tradition of autumn fairs, which once marked the end of fieldwork and the beginning of the harvest season. It attracts exhibitors and visitors in a festive late-summer atmosphere.
The two car boot sales in Lézat-sur-Lèze take place in the center of the village, accessible from Pamiers via the D1 or from Saint-Girons via the D628. Entry is free. Exhibitor registrations are made with the Lézat Traditions association or the town hall. Further information is available from the organizers.
