A flea market rooted in school life

The Les Roseaux school flea market is organised each spring by the OGEC (Catholic school management body) in Soullans, a small town in the northern Vendée marshes about ten kilometres south of Challans. For over a decade, it has been one of the anticipated spring gatherings of the Pays de Saint-Jean-de-Monts.

Like most Vendée school flea markets, it is driven by a solid team of parents and volunteers working from dawn to set up, welcome sellers and run the refreshment stand. All proceeds are reinvested into the school: outings, equipment, class projects.

What you will find

The event mostly welcomes private sellers clearing attics, garages and wardrobes. Visitors browse through vintage crockery, books, toys, clothing, small furniture and decorative items. The generous 3 m × 7 m pitches allow sellers to display comfortably.

Soullans, a northern-marshes village

Soullans is home to around 4,000 inhabitants, between Challans and Saint-Jean-de-Monts, on the edge of the Breton Vendée marshes. It is the birthplace of writer Jean Yole, with a small museum in his honour. The 12th-century church Saint-Hilaire and typical marsh farms form an unassuming but charming heritage.

Tips for the day

Arrive early for the best finds but take the time to stroll - conviviality is key. On-site catering (grills, crêpes, cool drinks) allows a mid-aisle break. A family event, perfect for a morning of bargain-hunting in a preserved corner of northern Vendée.
