The traditional Easter Monday vide-grenier in the Garrigue neighbourhood
Every Easter Monday, the Garrigue neighbourhood of Mérindol comes alive for its traditional spring vide-grenier. At the foot of the Luberon massif, this village gathering brings together private sellers and small exhibitors on the pine-lined paths of the residential area. A chance to combine treasure hunting, a spring stroll and the discovery of a history-rich Huguenot village.
Mérindol holds a singular place in Provençal history. This village at the foot of the Luberon, on the Durance, is an important site of Waldensian and Protestant memory: the 1545 massacre, which decimated the Waldensian population of the Luberon, is one of the founding events of regional religious memory.
The Garrigue neighbourhood is one of the village's residential extensions, set on the first slopes of the Luberon. Its name evokes the Mediterranean vegetation that surrounds it: pines, holm oaks, cistus, thyme and rosemary.
Easter Monday is traditionally a family outing day in Provence. The Garrigue vide-grenier offers a rural setting for a day of strolling.
