Fitou is a village in the Aude department whose name is inseparable from the wine that made its global reputation. The Fitou AOC appellation, created in 1948, is the oldest red appellation in Languedoc-Roussillon. Fitou wines, mainly from Carignan and Grenache noir grape varieties, are produced in two distinct areas - Fitou maritime near the lagoons and high-altitude Fitou in the Corbières - producing wines of different expressions but always powerful and expressive.
