The association Les Amis de Vernassal is behind one of the most authentic car boot sales in Haute-Loire. Every last Sunday of July, the streets and squares of the medieval village of Vernassal (43270) are covered with stalls offering objects, furniture, clothing, and curiosities. With a capacity of around 80 exhibitors, the event is dense enough to satisfy the most demanding treasure hunters while retaining the intimate atmosphere of village events.

Vernassal, a medieval village in the heart of Velay

Vernassal is a village clustered on a rocky outcrop, at an altitude of 924 meters, in the canton of Paulhaguet. Mentioned as early as 969 in the Chamalières charter, the village derives its name from the Gaulish word "verno-ialo" meaning "the alder clearing". Its 12th-century Romanesque church and the remains of its medieval castle constitute remarkable architectural heritage. La Borne, a tributary of the Allier, flows through the communal territory. This historical and natural setting gives the car boot sale a particularly charming atmosphere.

Around 80 exhibitors in the village alleys

The organization of the car boot sale in the streets and squares of the village of Vernassal creates a treasure hunting route that naturally integrates into the medieval architecture of the town. The approximately 80 exhibitors set up along the narrow streets and in the small squares, creating a discovery that is both commercial and heritage-based. Visitors wander among the stalls while admiring the basalt houses and typical village alleys.

Rates and practical organization

The rates offered by Les Amis de Vernassal are transparent and reasonable: €5 for 5 meters or €10 for 10 meters. Exhibitors are welcomed from 5 am, allowing for a relaxed setup before opening to the public at 7 am. Parking is available north and south of the village, and entry is free for visitors. Catering and a refreshment stand are provided on-site for everyone's comfort.
