Every August 15th, the village of Vergezac (43320) organizes its votive festival car boot sale, from 6 am to 6 pm, rue de l'Église. About a hundred exhibitors liven up this traditional festive day, with homemade bread baked in an oven and meals on reservation. Free entry. Organized by the Vergezac town hall.
Vergezac is a village in Haute-Loire located in the Brioude sector, between the large plains of Limagne and the first volcanic reliefs of Auvergne. Every August 15th, Assumption Day, the village celebrates its votive festival with a program centered around the car boot sale, a must-attend event of the local summer. The rue de l'Église, the main street of the village, is transformed for the occasion into an open-air second-hand market.
The Vergezac car boot sale brings together about a hundred exhibitors, a remarkable number for a rural municipality of this size. From 6 am to 6 pm, twelve hours of continuous treasure hunting, stalls line the rue de l'Église and its surroundings. Individuals and flea market enthusiasts offer a wide variety of items: antique furniture, crockery, clothing, books, tools, and trinkets of all kinds. The constant influx of visitors throughout the day attests to the growing reputation of this event.
One of the most appreciated attractions of the Vergezac car boot sale is the sale of homemade bread. Baked in an artisanal oven by the volunteers of the festival, this sourdough or wood-fired bread is sold to visitors throughout the day. This artisanal bakery production is a symbol of attachment to Auvergne's rural traditions and a desire to offer authentic products alongside the flea market.
In addition to homemade bread, a meal is offered to participants on reservation. This community meal, organized by the town hall and volunteers of Vergezac, is an opportunity to share a friendly moment at the table, in the spirit of the great summer feasts of the villages of Haute-Loire.
