Bouin is a rural commune of about 2,300 in northern Vendée, on Bourgneuf bay. Its history is tied to salt marshes, oyster farming and reclaiming land from the sea. A unique community that has kept an authentic character.

The annual flea market, Sunday 24 May 2026, fits the tradition of friendly village events. Usually in the centre or a dedicated area, drawing locals and neighbours each spring. Atmosphere typical of marsh villages: calm, warm, authentic.

A singular heritage

Bouin deserves a visit on its own. Salt marshes still producing traditional salt, renowned oyster beds (Bouin oysters), Port du Bec with its colourful huts, Saint-Nicolas church, dikes reclaiming land. Bouin is the southern gateway of the Gois causeway to Noirmoutier.

Gourmet terroir

A must for gourmets: oysters, clams, eels, marsh salt, famous préfou. Local producers sometimes join the flea market.
