A great day of hunting in the village that inspired Marcel Pagnol
Each early June, the small village of Vaugines — iconic setting of Claude Berri's Pagnol adaptations — hosts its annual fair-brocante. Between the shaded square, the singing fountain and the alleys of the historic centre, sellers and hunters gather for a friendly day at the foot of the Luberon.
With some 550 inhabitants, Vaugines is one of the Luberon's smallest villages. It gained lasting fame as Claude Berri's 1990 filming location for "Jean de Florette" and "Manon des Sources", adaptations of Marcel Pagnol's novels. The fountain and church square became world-famous.
Typical of small Provençal villages where everyone knows each other. Mostly private sellers from Vaugines and nearby, plus a few professional brocanteurs. Stalls fill the central square around the fountain and the adjacent alleys.
Impossible to visit Vaugines without admiring the famous fountain from "Manon des Sources", with its round plane-shaded basin — the natural heart of the brocante.
Both private-seller market and professional brocante: bric-a-brac, Provençal tableware, antique linen, clothing, books, antique toys, small hunted furniture, regional pottery, old agricultural tools, rural life objects, glassware, costume and sometimes antique jewellery.
On Sunday 7 June 2026, Vaugines hosts its annual fair-brocante at the heart of the village. Around the famous "Manon des Sources" fountain and in the old centre alleys, private sellers and brocanteurs offer a day of authentic hunting in one of the southern Luberon's most charming small villages.
