Valréas Tròc Vestis Clothing Exchange

A clothing exchange rooted in Occitan culture

Tròc Vestis in Occitan literally means 'clothing exchange'. Organised by the Calandreta de Vaurias, a bilingual French-Occitan primary school in Valréas, the 6 May 2026 event combines clothing swap, dressing clearance and associative action. School families and the public can deposit adult and children's clothes and acquire others at symbolic prices.

Calandretas are secular, free associative schools using bilingual immersion: French and Occitan on an equal footing. Born in the 1980s in Béarn and Languedoc, the movement now spreads across southern France. The Valréas school – Vaurias is the Occitan name of Valréas – welcomes children in an ambitious project rooted in Provençal culture.

How it works

Depositors entrust clean, good-condition clothes that are sold at very low prices. Buyers can browse adult and children's clothing, shoes, accessories, linen. Unsold items are either retrieved, donated to charities or recycled.

Valréas, historic capital of the Enclave of the Popes, is enclosed within the Drôme but attached to Vaucluse since the papal Middle Ages, retaining a strong Provençal identity.
