40 years of brocante in the service of the school

The Sou des Écoles brocante of Sathonay-Village celebrates its 40th edition in 2026, an anniversary that highlights the inhabitants' attachment to this associative and community tradition. Since 1987, the Sou des Écoles has mobilized a team of dedicated volunteers each year to organize this brocante and jumble sale market, which attracts sellers and visitors from neighbouring communes. Antique furniture, trinkets, crockery, clothing, books, vinyl records, tools and all kinds of objects change hands in a warm atmosphere. Proceeds fund school trips, after-school activities and equipment for the village school.

Sathonay-Village, a village within the city

Sathonay-Village is an independent commune of around 1,600 inhabitants, but entirely enclosed within the territory of Rillieux-la-Pape, north of the Lyon metropolitan area. This geographical peculiarity, extremely rare in France, gives it a strong and preserved identity, even in the heart of an urban environment. The commune retains its school, town hall and associations, including the Sou des Écoles which has maintained the tradition of this brocante for four decades. The village benefits from a peaceful living environment, with some green spaces and an active community life, far from the hustle and bustle of the neighbouring big city.
