The Montolieu Antique Book Fair, a temple of bibliophilia

Every year on Easter weekend, the Foyer Jean Guéhenno in Montolieu hosts the Antique and Second-Hand Book Fair, organized by the Association Montolieu Village du Livre et des Arts in collaboration with the village booksellers. This unique event in the Aude brings together specialized booksellers offering for sale antique books, first editions, manuscripts, rare bindings, illustrated books, and all the treasures of written and graphic heritage.

Montolieu, village of books in Occitanie

Montolieu (11170) is a village of about 900 inhabitants, located in the Carcassonnais region, about ten kilometers north of Carcassonne. This hilltop village, known as the village of books, is home to about a dozen specialized antique and second-hand bookshops, as well as bookbinding, engraving, and stationery workshops. Montolieu, along with Bécherel (Brittany), is one of the few book villages in France, a must-visit destination for all bibliophiles.

A fair for all book lovers

During the Antique Book Fair, invited booksellers offer a selection of first editions, antique books from the 16th to the 20th century, illuminated manuscripts, engravings, old maps, period posters, photographs, and artist's books. Each edition of the fair is themed around a particular subject or author, leading to dedicated exhibitions and meetings.

A national event

Over its editions — the 30th of which was held in 2025 — the Montolieu fair has gained a national reputation. Collectors, enthusiasts, and the simply curious come from all over France and abroad to participate in this unique event, in the inspiring setting of a village entirely dedicated to books.
