Saint-Sardos Flea Market and Brocante

A medieval sauveté by the lake

Saint-Sardos, a small Bas-Quercy village founded in the 12th century by Sarlat monks, displays its rural quietude between hills and valleys, about thirty minutes from Montauban and Toulouse. A medieval sauveté whose name derives from Sacerdos canonised as early as 1122, the bourg keeps rich heritage: 14th-century church bell tower, Maison Lasserre, war memorial sculpted by an Antoine Bourdelle student, and one of the department's last twin-millstone windmills. But the commune also owes its renown to its leisure park around Lake Boulet, an 18-hectare body of water part of the Combe-Cave and Boulet ensemble.

Salle du Lac, the flea market's setting

It is the Salle du Lac, in the heart of the leisure park at Lake Boulet's edge, that hosts this great annual flea market and brocante. The mixed format combining private sellers and dealers offers a generous full-day programme from 8am to 6pm with free admission. Sellers lay out crockery, clothes, toys, books, trinkets, family brocante, small furniture, plus more targeted brocante pieces: antique glassware, faience, regional objects, vinyl records, postcards and old papers. The lakeside setting, shaded and restful, makes a pleasant change from concrete town markets: here you hunt while breathing pine fresh air.

A well-oiled, charitable organisation

The event boasts a precious asset: its sheltered hall, allowing sellers to lay out whatever the weather, complemented by outdoor spaces around the lake when conditions allow. Visitor parking is free and well-sized. The on-site catering, generous and quality (meal trays, fries, cold drinks), is a strong point that extends the visit. Toilets in the hall complete a practical, comfortable setup. During autumn editions, the organisation sometimes donates all proceeds to the Tarn-et-Garonne League Against Cancer, testimony to a strong charitable commitment.
