Annual flea market in Saint-Mesmes, a Seine-et-Marne village at the edge of the Plaine de France
The annual flea market of Saint-Mesmes, a small town in northwestern Seine-et-Marne near Claye-Souilly, brings together around 85 exhibitors each year on Chemin des Buttes. Organized by the Saint Mesmes Animations association, this friendly event attracts individuals and bargain hunters who come to enjoy a day of good humor and discovery. With an exhibitor fee of 5€/m, it remains one of the most affordable village brocantes in the region and has long contributed to the liveliness of this small Brie village.
Every year in June, the village of Saint-Mesmes recaptures its festive atmosphere thanks to the flea market organized by the Saint Mesmes Animations association. Set up along Chemin des Buttes, in a rural setting typical of the Île-de-France Brie, the event brings together around 85 exhibitors sharing their hidden treasures. This gathering has become a highlight of the local calendar and attracts bargain hunters and residents from the nearby area, from Claye-Souilly, Mitry-Mory, and Villeparisis.
With nearly 85 stalls, the flea market offers beautiful diversity without losing the intimate character of a village brocante. Individuals clearing their attics, families parting with unused toys, passionate second-hand enthusiasts: all contribute to the richness of the offering. Clothing, toys, books, records, tableware, small furniture, trinkets, and curiosities make up a varied panorama where everyone can find something to love. The exhibitor fee of 5€ per linear meter remains one of the most accessible in the area and explains the loyalty of regulars who reserve their spot from year to year.
Saint-Mesmes is a small Brie town nestled between the great agricultural plains of northern Seine-et-Marne and the woods that herald the Marne valley. Its castle, old church, and field landscapes give the village a discreet rural charm, just a few kilometers from Charles-de-Gaulle airport. The atmosphere is that of a family village where associations play a central role in community life, as clearly shown by the work of Saint Mesmes Animations, the driving force behind this spring event.
The Saint-Mesmes flea market is perfect for a family outing. Children love browsing among second-hand toys, parents enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and grandparents sometimes rediscover with emotion objects from their youth. On-site food and drinks typically complete the offering, allowing visitors to take their time and enjoy the day without having to go home for lunch. It is the perfect opportunity to share a simple, authentic moment in a warm village setting.
Visitors from further afield can extend their day by discovering the riches of the area: the Claye-Souilly park, the Ourcq canal, the agricultural landscapes of the Plaine de France, or the typically Brie villages nearby. The proximity of the A104 and N2 makes Saint-Mesmes easily accessible from eastern Paris. Heritage lovers can continue to Meaux and its famous Saint-Étienne cathedral, about twenty minutes away.
The flea market takes place on Chemin des Buttes, in Saint-Mesmes (77410). Admission is free for visitors. For exhibitors, the fee is 5€ per linear meter.
