Summer car boot sale in the village of Saint-Marc-à-Loubaud on the Millevaches plateau
Every year in July, the village of Saint-Marc-à-Loubaud hosts a small country car boot sale that embodies the charm of these rural Creuse events. About fifteen exhibitors, mainly individuals from the village and neighboring communes, set up their stalls in the village streets to offer furniture, trinkets, crockery, toys, and second-hand items. The rate of 1 euro per linear meter makes this event accessible to everyone.
Saint-Marc-à-Loubaud is a commune of only 80 inhabitants perched at an altitude of 700 meters on the Millevaches plateau, in the heart of the Millevaches Plateau Regional Natural Park. This wild and preserved territory, covered with heather moorlands, peat bogs, and coniferous forests, is home to remarkable biodiversity. The springs and streams that originate on this plateau feed the Vienne, the Taurion, and their tributaries, making this region the water tower of Limousin.
The Saint-Marc-à-Loubaud car boot sale is above all a moment of village conviviality. Far from large events with hundreds of exhibitors, this human-sized flea market allows for warm exchanges between neighbors and visitors. The inhabitants of the plateau, both new and old residents, gather around the stalls to share a drink and tell the stories of the items for sale. It's the spirit of the countryside flea market in all its simplicity.
Saint-Marc-à-Loubaud is located a few kilometers from Lake Vassivière, one of the largest artificial lakes in France. This 1,000-hectare body of water, surrounded by forests and dotted with islands, including the one housing the International Center for Art and Landscape, is a prime spot for water sports and swimming in the summer. Bargain hunters can extend their day with a walk on the trails surrounding the lake, offering grandiose panoramas of the blue waters and the wooded hills of the plateau.
The Saint-Marc-à-Loubaud flea market takes place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the village, on the Millevaches plateau in Creuse. It runs all day as part of the traditional Potato Pie Festival, an event organized for about thirty years by the local festival committee.
Around fifteen exhibitors unpack their finds for bargain hunters, amidst a festive program: potato pie tasting, a producers' market, a peeling competition, a raffle, and entertainment. Admission for visitors is free.
The flea market takes place as part of the Potato Pie Festival (weekend of July 18 and 19, 2026), all day Sunday in the village.
