The historic district flea market by the canals
Every late March, the Saint-Leu spring flea market takes over rue Dame Jeanne and rue de la Dodane, in the heart of Amiens' most picturesque district. Organised by the Saint-Leu district committee, this particulars-only event offers a unique setting: cobblestones, canals, colourful half-timbered houses and the nearby cathedral.
The Saint-Leu district of Amiens, often called the "little Venice of the North" for its canals drawn from the hortillonnages, is the oldest neighbourhood in the city. Its half-timbered houses, cobbled lanes and small bridges make it an exceptional backdrop. Each spring, rue Dame Jeanne and rue de la Dodane are transformed into an open-air bargain hunter's market.
What defines this flea market is its strictly private-sellers-only format. No professionals, no new items, only Amiens residents emptying their attics and cellars. Clothes, books, records, toys, crockery and small furniture at modest prices.
Bargain hunting in Saint-Leu also means enjoying one of the finest urban walks in Picardy. Canals plied by flat-bottomed boats, colourful facades carefully rebuilt after WWII, cafés along the quays: a village within the city.
The spring flea market is organised by the Saint-Leu district committee. Registration for exhibitors is compulsory, at €3 per linear metre (€2.50 for members). This controlled registration preserves the private-sellers-only spirit.
From 7 am to 5 pm, the lanes buzz with early bargain hunters and Sunday strollers. No food stalls on site, so visitors stop in one of the district's many cafés.
The 2026 edition of the Saint-Leu spring flea market was held on Sunday 29 March 2026, from 7 am to 5 pm, on rue Dame Jeanne and rue de la Dodane. Amiens residents animated this spring rendezvous in the unique setting of the canals and half-timbered houses of the city's oldest district.
On Sunday 29 March 2026, the Saint-Leu district transformed itself from 7 am into a vast open-air market. Rue Dame Jeanne and rue de la Dodane, usually quiet, welcomed early hunters and Sunday strollers between the stalls of private sellers only.
The Saint-Leu district committee strictly enforced the "private sellers only" and "no new items" rules. Visitors enjoyed the exceptional setting with boats gliding along the canals.
This 2026 edition, opened by a fresh but sunny morning, confirms this market's unique place in the Amiens calendar. See you in March 2027.
