Autumn flea market in the heart of the Cerdanya village of Saillagouse
Every autumn, the narrow streets of Saillagouse come alive for the traditional October flea market. Located on the high plateau of French Cerdanya at 1,309 meters altitude, this picturesque village becomes for a day a large outdoor flea market where individuals and bargain hunters meet for a friendly day before the arrival of winter.
The residents of Saillagouse and the surrounding villages—Err, Llo, Targassonne, Ur, Bourg-Madame—come to offer the items they wish to part with before the first snow. On the stalls are piled dishes, decorative items, clothing, children's toys, books, tools, trinkets, and sometimes real finds for lovers of antiques. The atmosphere is typically Catalan: warm, friendly, punctuated with Southern accents and laughter.
Coming to hunt for bargains in Saillagouse is also an opportunity to discover or rediscover this magnificent Cerdanya village, with its Saint-Pierre church, its colorful facades, and its panorama of the Pyrenean peaks of Puigmal and Carlit. The flea market is part of a day that is both commercial and touristic, allowing visitors to enjoy the charm of this corner of the Pyrénées-Orientales before the rigors of Cerdanya winter.
