Boot sale at the heart of the autumn festival, with pumpkins, apple juice and flea market
Every fourth Sunday of October, the Romans festival committee organises its autumn festival, an unmissable gathering for local residents and lovers of rural life. The boot sale, centrepiece of the event, transforms the village into a vast open-air market where toys, books, crockery, clothing, small furniture and collectibles sit side by side.
The originality of this event lies in its integration into a complete village celebration. Visitors can alternate between browsing stalls and the many activities: pumpkin and squash sales, live apple pressing with fresh juice tasting, bread baking in the communal oven, plant swapping among gardeners, and a local producers' market offering honey, cheese, cured meats and artisan jams. A guided walk is also offered to explore the surrounding trails.
A rural commune in the La Crèche canton, Romans is a typical Deux-Sèvres bocage village nestled between Niort and Saint-Maixent-l'École. Its stone houses, sunken lanes and rolling meadows provide a bucolic setting for this autumn celebration.
The autumn festival is entirely run by the Romans festival committee, a passionate volunteer association that enlivens village life throughout the year. Refreshments, catering and entertainment are provided by committee members, ensuring a warm welcome and reasonable prices.
