Car boot sale and associative festival in the heart of an Aveyronnais village between Tarn and Causse du Larzac, a stone's throw from the Millau Viaduct
The Car boot sale and Associations Festival of Comprégnac is an annual event organized every May 8th by the Comprégnac Animation Committee, in this village of 248 inhabitants nestled on the right bank of the Tarn, 12 kilometers downstream from Millau. This friendly event combines a car boot sale open to individuals and an associations festival that highlights the dynamism of local associative life. The village center welcomes exhibitors from 8 a.m., while associations offer refreshments, light catering, bread baked in the communal oven of Peyre, brass band musical entertainment, children's games, street performances, and free visits to the Truffle House. Comprégnac is home to the village of Peyre, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, clinging to the cliff above the Tarn, and offers a privileged view of the Millau Viaduct.
Every May 8th, the Comprégnac Animation Committee organizes a festive day that combines a car boot sale and an associations festival in the village center. This deeply rooted local tradition brings together bargain hunters and families in the streets of this small Aveyronnais village of 248 inhabitants, located on the right bank of the Tarn downstream from Millau. Exhibitors set up their stalls from 8 a.m. and offer the usual variety of rural car boot sales: crockery, books, clothes, toys, trinkets, tools, and second-hand furniture. The pitch is accessible to individuals by reservation with the Animation Committee, at a rate of €6 for 2 linear meters and €3 per additional meter.
The commune of Comprégnac covers over 11 km² in the Parc naturel régional des Grands Causses, between the Tarn valley and the limestone plateaus of the Larzac. Its altitude ranges from 240 to 701 meters, offering contrasting landscapes between the riverbanks and the Causse heights. The village consists of two hamlets—Comprégnac and Peyre—and two hamlets, Les Douzes and Thérondels. Comprégnac Castle houses the Maison de la Truffe (Truffle House), a museum space dedicated to the black truffle of Périgord (Tuber melanosporum), which is the pride of Aveyronnais truffle growers working on the small, steep plots of the Causses. The free visit to the Truffle House is one of the highlights of the May 8th event.
Comprégnac has the distinction of having the village of Peyre within its territory, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and recognized as a Remarkable Site of France and Europe. This troglodytic village clinging to the cliff in a meander of the Tarn captivates with its semi-troglodytic church, its stone houses nestled against the rock, and its breathtaking view of the Millau Viaduct, the world's tallest cable-stayed bridge, reaching 343 meters. During the May 8th festival, visitors can stroll through the alleys of Peyre and taste fresh bread baked in the village's communal oven, reactivated by the Tarnaval association.
The Associations Festival showcases the associative fabric of this small commune. Several local associations participate in animating the day: the Comité d'Animation de Comprégnac provides refreshments and coordination, Tarnaval offers bread baked in the communal oven of Peyre, the Association des Trufficulteurs opens the doors of the Truffle House, l'Écho des Avens and Tambourefanfare provide brass band musical entertainment, and the Compagnie Tête d'Ampoules offers street performances and café-théâtre. The associative grocery store l'Épi-C and the Station D41 complete the offerings with catering and children's activities.
From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Comprégnac car boot sale offers a full day of bargain hunting in a remarkable natural setting. Light catering on site allows visitors to regain strength between finds, while children's games and shows punctuate the afternoon. Admission is free for visitors. Beyond bargain hunting, it's an opportunity to discover an authentic village in southern Aveyron, stroll through the alleys adorned with wisteria in spring, and hike on the Causses trails with views of the Tarn valley and the Millau Viaduct.
The Car boot sale and Associations Festival of Comprégnac returns on Friday, May 8, 2026, to the village center. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., a car boot sale open to individuals and an associations festival with refreshments, catering, bread from Peyre's oven, brass band, children's games, shows, and a visit to the Truffle House. Free admission.
