Charity car boot sale organized by the APE of the Le Crès-Albert Séguier school, avenue Charles de Gaulle in Millau
The Vide-Grenier de l'École du Crès is an annual event organized by the Parents' Association (APE) of the Le Crès-Albert Séguier elementary school in Millau, in the historic district of Le Crès. Under the motto "Empty your room!", this friendly event brings together families and bargain hunters in the schoolyard, at 23 avenue Charles de Gaulle. All profits are donated to fund educational projects, school trips, and educational activities for the students. Millau, a sub-prefecture of Aveyron, is famous for its iconic viaduct and its exceptional location at the confluence of the Tarn and Dourbie rivers, between the Causse du Larzac and the Causse Noir, in the heart of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park.
Each year, the APE of the Le Crès-Albert Séguier school organizes its car boot sale in the elementary schoolyard, at 23 avenue Charles de Gaulle in Millau. Under the unifying theme "Empty your room!", this event invites young and old to give a second life to their everyday items: toys, clothes, books, board games, dishes, trinkets, and many other finds at low prices. All profits are donated to fund the children's school projects, financing educational trips, shows, creative workshops, and educational materials.
The Crès district gets its name from the old chestnut tree alley that led down to the town. Its development is closely linked to the arrival of the railway on May 19, 1874, with the inauguration of the Béziers-Millau line. The famous barrière du Crès, a mandatory passage point between the station and the town, has long marked the life of the district. Avenue Charles de Gaulle, the main artery of Le Crès, still bears traces of that era, such as "Villa Chapeau Blanc" at number 24, a remnant of a local family nicknamed "lou copel blanc". The Le Crès-Albert Séguier school, opened in 1968, now welcomes nearly 190 students in kindergarten and elementary school.
The car boot sale of the Crès school exclusively features stalls run by individuals. You can find a wide variety of items: children's and adult clothing and shoes, toys, stuffed animals, and board games, books and comics, dishes and decorative items, small furniture and childcare equipment. The pitch is offered at €6 for 3 linear meters, an affordable price that attracts many exhibitors from Millau and neighboring towns. A refreshment stand and light catering are provided on-site by APE volunteers.
Millau, a sub-prefecture of Aveyron, is a town of character nestled at the confluence of the Tarn and Dourbie rivers, at an altitude of about 370 meters. Dominated by the famous Viaduc de Millau, a masterpiece of engineering inaugurated in 2004 and designed by Michel Virlogeux and Norman Foster, the city is located in the heart of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, between the Causse du Larzac to the south and the Causse Noir to the east. Once the world capital of glove making, Millau retains a rich medieval and artisanal heritage, with its 12th-century belfry, the Ayrolle washhouse, and the Millau and Grands Causses Museum.
The car boot sale of the Crès school is part of a very active tradition of school solidarity in Aveyron. These events allow families to meet in a relaxed atmosphere, find good deals while contributing to the well-being of the schoolchildren. Admission is free for visitors, and the warm atmosphere of the schoolyard guarantees a pleasant experience for bargain hunters of all ages. Registration is done through the APE, by phone or via the HelloAsso platform.
