Grand flea market on Whit Monday in Saint-Marcel, at the foot of the Gallo-Roman city of Argentomagus
Every Whit Monday, the village of Saint-Marcel hosts a large flea market that attracts bargain hunters from all over the region. Exhibitors set up their stalls in the village streets to offer antique furniture, trinkets, tableware, books, toys, tools, vintage clothing, and various curiosities. The public holiday leads to a large turnout and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
Saint-Marcel is a village overlooking the Creuse valley, at the confluence with the Bouzanne. The site has been inhabited since antiquity: the Gallo-Roman city of Argentomagus prospered there for several centuries. The Argentomagus archaeological museum, designed by Jean Nouvel, presents the remains of this ancient city. This exceptional setting gives the Pentecost flea market a special atmosphere, between millennial heritage and popular tradition.
The Creuse valley, which crosses the south of the Indre department, is dotted with picturesque villages. Argenton-sur-Creuse, nicknamed the "Venice of Berry" for its houses with balconies overlooking the river, is 2 km away. Gargilesse-Dampierre, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, is 15 km away. The Pentecost flea market is the ideal opportunity to discover this preserved region.
Saint-Marcel is on the RN20/A20 exit 17, 2 km from Argenton-sur-Creuse and 30 km south of Châteauroux.
