The great autumn boot sale in the lively streets of Niort city centre
Every first Sunday of October, Niort city centre transforms into a vast open-air bargain hunting ground. The city centre boot sale, organised by the Niort en Ville association in partnership with the City of Niort, has become one of the most anticipated autumn events in Deux-Sèvres over the years, attracting thousands of visitors from across the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
From Rue Ricard to Place de la Brèche, via Rue Victor Hugo and Rue du Temple, the historic centre's streets are adorned with colourful stalls. You can find everything: clothes, toys, books, vinyl records, crockery, small furniture, decorative items, tools and all manner of curiosities. The atmosphere is festive and family-friendly, with live music and food stalls punctuating the route.
The departmental capital, Niort is a dynamic city of over 60,000 inhabitants, known for its medieval heritage — notably the Romanesque keep overlooking the Sèvre Niortaise — and its mutual insurance tradition. Its commercial city centre, with its market halls, café terraces and shops, provides an ideal setting for this popular event.
The Niort city centre boot sale is not just an opportunity to find a bargain: it is also a moment of meeting and sharing between local residents, shopkeepers and visitors. City centre shops remain open and often offer special deals for the occasion, creating a synergy between the boot sale and local commerce.
