Every November 11th, the main square of Mirepoix transforms into a vast treasure market. Over 50 exhibitors set up their stalls under the famous medieval arcades of this 13th-century fortified town, offering antique furniture, tableware, books, prints, and curiosities to a crowd of flea market lovers from the entire department and neighboring regions.
Mirepoix (09500) is a commune of 3,172 inhabitants, classified among the most beautiful medieval fortified towns in France. Founded in the 13th century, the town is organized around a central square with arcades — the couverts — and an impressive Saint-Maurice Cathedral. This unique architectural heritage gives Mirepoix renown far beyond the borders of Ariège.
The town is located at an altitude of 302 meters, 17 kilometers northeast of Lavelanet and 93 kilometers from Toulouse. It is the center of the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Mirepoix and boasts 58 listed historical monuments and buildings, confirming its status as a commune of very high heritage value. Its weekly Monday morning market is one of the most renowned in Ariège.
The choice of November 11th — a public holiday in France commemorating the 1918 armistice — for the Mirepoix flea market is not coincidental. This day of freedom and national remembrance invites leisurely strolls and discoveries. The medieval arcades, which naturally protect the stalls from autumn rain, provide a perfect setting for this seasonal event.
The 50+ exhibitors offer a diverse selection: regional wooden furniture, earthenware and porcelain, silverware and metal objects, paintings and lithographs, old and modern books, retro clothing, antique toys, trinkets and curiosities from all eras. Each exhibitor brings their personality and specialty, creating a varied and surprising treasure hunt.
The November 11th flea market in Mirepoix is a must-visit event for treasure hunters in the southwest. The autumnal atmosphere of the fortified town, with its ochre colors and golden leaves, adds to the charm of the event. Visits to Saint-Maurice Cathedral and the medieval half-timbered houses nicely complement a day of discovery.
The flea market is held every November 11th under the arcades of Mirepoix's central square (09500). Free entry for visitors. The Monday market remains active in Mirepoix throughout the year (Place Leclerc).
