Stalls and Ségala products in the village centre
On Tuesday 21 April 2026, Tanus, a small commune in the north of Tarn nestled in the Ségala, holds its monthly market in the village centre. In addition to the usual stalls of producers, market gardeners and local artisans, traders and pedlars regularly join, giving the event the flavour of a small Tarn fair. A living tradition that animates the village square each month.
Tanus, a Tarn commune of 500 inhabitants set on a Ségala plateau northeast of Albi, maintains a precious rural tradition: its monthly market. Every third Tuesday of the month, the church square and adjacent streets come alive with stalls of producers, market gardeners, artisans and travelling merchants. 21 April 2026 marks the spring edition, particularly awaited after the long winter months.
This monthly market has a dual vocation. On one hand, it is a true producers' market offering the excellence of the Ségala terroir: farm cheeses, cured meats, peasant breads, honey, jams, seasonal fruits and vegetables, poultry, eggs, plants and flowers. On the other hand, traders and pedlars set up: clothing, shoes, household linen, small bazaar, garden items, sometimes brocante, crockery or second-hand tools stalls.
Tanus is known in Tarn for its Ségala Exhibition Fair, a large annual event attracting thousands of visitors each summer around livestock, agriculture and crafts. The monthly market is a miniature, more intimate version of this fair culture.
The commune also owes its fame to the spectacular Viaur viaduct, railway masterpiece inaugurated in 1902, crossing the valley over 460 metres at 116 metres high.
Tuesday 21 April 2026, Tanus monthly market on the church square. Ségala farm producers, market gardeners, food artisans, traders and pedlars offer their products in the heart of the village. A monthly commercial tradition (third Tuesday of the month) typical of the Tarn Ségala, at the gates of the Viaur viaduct.
