Spring plant fair in the historic Ponthieu region
The Crécy-en-Ponthieu plant fair gathers around fifteen passionate exhibitors on Sunday 3 May 2026. In this historic Ponthieu commune, amateur and professional gardeners exchange perennials, herbs, vegetable plants, shrubs and practical advice. A human-scale spring rendezvous, ideal to prepare your garden while supporting short horticultural supply chains in the Somme.
Crécy-en-Ponthieu, famous for the 1346 battle between France and England during the Hundred Years' War, hosts its annual plant fair on Sunday 3 May 2026. The event, more intimate than commercial, gathers around fifteen passionate exhibitors offering plants and sharing their horticultural know-how. The perfect rendezvous for Ponthieu amateur gardeners preparing their vegetable plots and borders before the ice saints.
Exhibitors offer a fine variety: perennials from grandma's garden, herbs and medicinal plants, seasonal vegetable plants (tomatoes, courgettes, peppers, lettuces, aubergines), ornamental and fruit shrubs, roses, artisanal seeds, summer bulbs, indoor plants and succulents. Many come from personal divisions, homemade cuttings or sowings, guaranteeing plants acclimatised to the Picard climate at prices far below garden centres.
Beyond sales, the plant fair is above all a place of exchange. Exhibitors, often seasoned gardeners, readily share their advice: what to plant now, how to care, which combinations work, how to fight pests without chemicals. Beginners leave with plants and knowledge, experts compare practices and discover rare varieties.
Crécy-en-Ponthieu is far more than a rural village. It was here, on 26 August 1346, that the Battle of Crécy took place — the first great French defeat of the Hundred Years' War and a resounding victory for Edward III's English archers. The battlefield, its commemorative windmill and the Bohemian cross recall this page of history. The commune is also bordered by the Crécy state forest, one of Picardy's finest, and by the Baie de Somme regional nature park.
The plant fair fits perfectly with the spirit of the place. Come to Crécy on a May Sunday to combine the discovery of an exceptional historic site, a visit to an authentic horticultural fair and a forest walk. Ponthieu gardens will enjoy all summer the plants acquired that day.
